That is the beginning of one of the most famous monologues from William Shakespeare's play, As You Like It.

The full opening of the speech, spoken by the character Jaques in Act II, Scene VII, is:

"All the world's a stage,

And all the men and women merely players;

They have their exits and their entrances,

And one man in his time plays many parts,

His acts being seven ages."

This powerful metaphor compares the world to a theater stage and life to a play. It suggests that our lives are scripted, with a predetermined entrance (birth) and exit (death), and that we simply act out different roles throughout our time here.

Jaques then goes on to describe these "seven ages of man":

The Infant

The Schoolboy

The Lover

The Soldier

The Justice (a wise, mature man)

The Pantaloon (an old man who has lost his authority)

Second Childishness (extreme old age, leading to oblivion)

The speech is a profound and somewhat melancholy reflection on the cycle of human life.
