Located about 70 km from Bengaluru, Alipur is home to nearly 25,000 people, of whom an estimated 90% are Shia Muslims.

Residents of Alipur village in Kauripitanur taluka of Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka are in a state of anxiety and grief after members of the Shia Muslim community called for a protest march and three days of mourning to condemn the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The protest has been organised under the leadership of the Anjuman-e-Jafaria group. Located about 70 km from Bengaluru, Alipur is home to nearly 25,000 people, of whom an estimated 90% are Shia Muslims.
