What is schizophrenia?

Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder that affects a person's thinking, feelings, and behavior. If you have a clear understanding of it, you can detect and treat it at an early stage.

What is schizophrenia?

Schizophrenia is not a "split personality." It is a condition in which you are unable to distinguish between the real world and fantasy. People with this illness have difficulty thinking logically, dealing with emotions, or interacting normally with others.

Main symptoms

The symptoms of schizophrenia can generally be divided into three types:

1. Positive symptoms

These are changes that are not present in a normal person, but are seen in a person with this illness:

Hallucinations: Hearing voices (like someone talking) or seeing images that are not there.

Delusions: The false belief that someone is watching you, trying to kill you, or that you have some kind of superpower.

Disorganized speech and thinking: Speaking incoherently or stopping in the middle of something.

2. Negative Symptoms

These are signs of a decrease in a person's normal functioning:

Being isolated from society.

Showing no emotion on the face (Flat affect).

Loss of interest in daily activities.

3. Cognitive Symptoms

Difficulty concentrating.

Inability to understand information and make decisions.

Causes

The exact cause of schizophrenia is not yet known. However, the following are considered to be the main factors:

Genetics: You are more likely to develop it if someone in your family has it.

Brain chemistry changes: An imbalance of chemicals in the brain, such as dopamine.

Environmental stressors: Excessive stress or drug use.

 Treatment methods

Depression is not an incurable disease; it can be completely controlled with proper treatment.

Medications (Antipsychotics): Doctors will prescribe medications to balance the chemicals in the brain.

Psychological counseling (Therapy): The patient and his family will be trained on how to cope with the disease.

Social support: The love and warmth of friends and family will help the patient recover quickly.

Note: If you notice the above symptoms, it is important to consult a qualified psychiatrist without making any decisions on your own. Early treatment can improve a person's quality of life.
